Ole Schemion Wins EPT Season 12 Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller

The €100,000 Super High Roller has always been among the highlight tournaments of the EPT Grand Final poker festival. This year's edition of the event was completed last night with German poker pro Ole Schemion emerging victorious over a star-studded field to collect a top prize of €1,597,800 and the tournament trophy.

Schemion is no stranger to the EPT scene. The player has won and has cashed in a number of EPT events over the past several years. However, last night's triumph has been his best career achievement so far.

This year, the Super High Roller event attracted a field of 61 entries who created a prize pool of €5,918,220. The eight final table players received a share of the money. Each of the finalists was guaranteed a minimum cash of €236,750. The event was a three-day one and its final day saw the eight remaining survivors return to determine the big winner. Play kicked off with Ali Reza Fatehi from Iran as the chip leader. At that time, Schemion was fourth in chips.

It took 13 hands of play before the first finalist left the table. Argentinian Ivan Luca was busted in 8th place, good for €236,750. Only 6 hands later Canadian Sam Greenwood fell victim to Mustapha Kanit. The player collected the total amount of €301,820 for his 7th place in the prestigious tournament.

Action slowed down a bit and the next elimination occurred on Hand #54 when Stephen Chidwick was busted by fellow Englishman Paul Newey. The player took home €378,750. Newey was, in fact, the next to leave the final table. His 5th place secured him with a payout of €485,300.

Russian Igor Kurganov left in 4th place after he could not make it against Kanit. The player scooped a €627,300 share of the prize pool. It is interesting to note that Kurganov has made it to the final table of the €100,000 Super High Roller over the past two years. The Russian was followed by start-of-the-day chip leader Ali Reza Fatehi. The Iranian received €828,500 for his third-place finish in the tournament.

Following Fatehi's elimination, Schemion and Kanit, the only two finalists at the table, agreed on a two-way deal, giving the German €1,547,800 and the Italian €1,462,000. The two players had €50,000 and the tournament trophy to play for.

On the very last hand of play, Schemion raised to 350,000 with [Qh][Qd] and Kanit moved all in with [7s][7h]. The German called instantly. The board ran out [Ks][Qs][2c][9s][7c] and the name of the champion was clear. Schemion became the EPT Season 12 Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller champion and Kanit had to settle for the runner-up finish.
